CREATOR OF MAX WORKOUTS

Shin Ohtake

As a former athlete, I'm no stranger to achy, stiff, and even painful joints.

But, when I was young, it seemed like my joints always “bounced back.”

Do you know the feeling?

Back in my 20s and even 30s, if I tweaked something, went a little too hard, or woke up with stiff knees, a little rehab, some stretching, and perhaps a little rest was all it took to get everything back to normal.

But, eventually, our joints stop returning to “normal.”

Now that I’m past the half-century mark, the days of recovering quickly from stiff, achy, and painful joints with a little rest and a couple of stretches are long gone.

It starts gradually….At first, you start waking up to joint aches and bone pain every once and a while…Or you sit in the wrong position for too long, and painful stiffness locks up your knee, hip, or shoulder…

And, before you know it, joint pain during your workouts, stiffness during your favorite activities, or having trouble just getting out of your chair becomes an everyday reality.

Joint and Bone Pain Keeping You From Being As Active As You’d Like?

If you’re like me, you want to be active and stay active.

But, according to the latest data... approximately 55% of people over 18 in the US have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis joint pain and…

Out of those people diagnosed with osteoarthritis, 50% of them were forced to limit their activity due to pain and discomfort in their joints!

That's a lot of people that experience achy, stiff, and painful joints!

And these are just the people that have been medically diagnosed.

Imagine the sheer number of people that experience joint discomfort but have not received a medical diagnosis...

They simply live with joint discomfort that's hindered or even stopped their ability to exercise and be active!

What Actually Causes Joint Pain? (It’s Not What You Might Think)

A rendering of a human body with pain points highlighted in the joints
A rendering of a human body with pain points highlighted in the joints
A rendering of a human body with pain points highlighted in the joints

Let’s talk about what osteoarthritis (that’s the medical term for joint pain) really is.

Osteoarthritis is the degeneration of joints.

That’s what causes the aches, stiffness, and pain.

Osteoarthritis is caused by “wear and tear” on your joints.

Over time, the ligaments and tendons that support joints wear down.

As ligaments and tendons get worn out, it causes the space in your joints to diminish, giving rise to a "bone-on-bone" state, which is what causes it to become stiff, achy, and painful.

As ligaments and tendons get worn out, it causes the space in your

joints to diminish, giving rise to a "bone-on-bone" state, which is what causes it to become stiff, achy, and painful.

The ligament and tendon structures that support your joints also make up the bone matrix. That’s the supporting structure for your bone.

This means that, as osteoarthritis progresses, bones become weak and fragile too.

This leads to a condition called osteopenia - the loss of bone density.

Both of These Conditions Have One Thing in Common

A nutrient called collagen.

Collagen is a protein compound that makes up 30% of all proteins in our body.

In fact, it’s the second most common substance in our body after water!

And it shows because collagen is everywhere...It's found in our skin... our largest organ.

It's in our bones. It's in our ligaments and tendons. It's in our hair. It's on our fingernails. It's even in arteries, veins, and intestines.

Is Age-Related Collagen Loss The Real Cause of Joint Pain, Aches, and Stiffness?

a man hunched over with back pain
a man hunched over with back pain
a man hunched over with back pain

Collagen is the glue that holds our bodies together, literally.

When we’re young our body produces plenty of collagen.  But as we grow older, our bodies produce less and less of it.

In fact, every decade after age 20, collagen production decreases by about 11 to 13%...

By the time we’re 80, we have about 30% of the collagen we did when we were in our 20s.

This is why we start to experience joint pain (osteoarthritis) and lose bone density (osteopenia) around the same time.

Collagen Holds Together Bone, Tendons, Ligaments, and More.

Collagen makes up the matrix of your bone to give it strength.

It’s also what makes up your tendons and ligaments as well, supporting your joints and protecting them from all the wear and tear.

You may have heard about collagen for skin health. That’s where I first started looking into it.

My wife started taking collagen as part of her skincare routine.

Makes sense because collagen is what actually holds our skin together too!B

ut, when we started to look into the research, here’s what we discovered…

Over 837 Scientific Studies Show that This Protein Can Ease Away Joint Pain and Discomfort

I’ll admit, not all supplements are worth it, but collagen peptide has over 837 scientific studies to validate its benefits.Take a look at some of the studies:

Reduced joint pain by 43%

A 2018 study found that taking collagen peptide supplementation reduced joint pain by 43% and improved joint mobility by 39%.

Reduced knee pain

A study done in 2017, found that collagen peptide helped reduce functional knee joint pain in athletes.

Effective osteoarthritis treatment

A medical literature review found that collagen peptide was an effective supplement for the treatment of osteoarthritis.

Decreased join degeneration

One study found that collagen peptide reduced joint discomfort and the risk of joint degeneration for athletes.

Improved osteoarthritis symptoms

A 2019 meta-analysis of randomized placebo-controlled trials found collagen peptide to be effective at improving osteoarthritis symptoms.

Improved strength & body composition

A very recent medical literature review found that collagen peptide led to better recovery, decreased pain, and improved strength and body composition when combined with resistance training.

Increased bone density

A 2018 randomized control study found 5g of collagen peptide increased bone density in postmenopausal women.

Decreased functional knee & hip pain

A randomized, placebo-controlled studies found that collagen peptide decreased functional knee and hip-joint pain.

Increased muscle strength

Another recent study also found that collagen peptides help increase muscle strength when combined with exercise which has been shown to increase bone density, preventing onset of osteoporosis.

Prevents age-related conditions

A 2015 study also found that collagen peptide helps mitigate age related muscle loss when combined with exercise which again helps maintain muscle strength which has been shown to prevent age-related conditions like osteopenia and osteoporosis

It’s clear that science has proven the benefits of collagen peptide supplementation, but it's important to keep in mind that NOT all collagen is created equal. (More on that in just a minute)...

Could Just a Few Grams of Collagen Per Day Make Up for Collagen Decline As We Get Older?

Countless studies have proven that collagen is just as effective at helping our skin stay young, supple, and wrinkle-free as it is at preventing bone loss and joint pain.

A study from 2012 found that eating collagen improved skin dryness and wrinkles…

With study participants having 76% less dryness and 12% fewer visible wrinkles…

Another study from 2014 found that 2.5 to 5 grams of collagen per day dramatically improved skin elasticity!

Just by eating a few grams of collagen per day!Pain-free joints, stronger bones, and smoother younger looking skin.

You can see why collagen is often referred to as the super protein!

5 Collagen-Boosting Superfoods You Should Start Eating ASAP!

There are two ways to get more collagen. I like to use both methods.

Method #1: Eat more foods that are proven to boost collagen.

And even though our body produces less collagen as we age, we can help enhance collagen production naturally through diet!

I’ll provide a list of foods proven to boost collagen production below.I try to eat as many of these foods as possible, but I also use:

Method #2: Supplement with collagen peptides.

There are MANY types of collagen supplements (but they’re not all created equal).

In a minute, I’ll share why I supplement with collagen peptides too. First, let's take a look at the foods you should stock up on that can help boost collagen production:

COLLAGEN BOOSTING FOOD #1

Anything High in Vitamin-C

Ok. This one is not really a specific type of food, it’s ANY food that’s high in vitamin C. Specifically, I’m talking about fruits and veggies that are high in vitamin C. Your body needs vitamin C to produce collagen, so make sure you’re eating enough foods like: Oranges, grapefruits, strawberries, pineapple, kiwi fruit, bell peppers, broccoli, and cauliflower... And all of the other Vitamin-C rich foods you can get your hands on!

COLLAGEN BOOSTING FOOD #2

Egg Whites

They’re packed with nutrients and protein, which is great for post-workout recovery as well. Now, egg whites don’t have collagen in them... keep in mind not all protein is collagen. But what they do have is proline, which is an important amino acid or building block that your body uses to make more collagen! Now what if you don’t eat eggs? You can eat veggies high in proline instead, like cabbage, asparagus, and mushrooms.

COLLAGEN BOOSTING FOOD #3

Cashews

Cashews contain glycine and lysine… These two amino acids play a big role in natural collagen production. Lots of nuts have these two collagen building blocks, but I like cashews because they are also high in zinc and copper, two other minerals that, along with vitamin C, help your body produce more collagen.

COLLAGEN BOOSTING FOOD #4

Garlic

Garlic is high in sulfur, a trace mineral that helps synthesize collagen and prevent collagen breakdown. Sulfur also helps your body produce more of the master antioxidant glutathione that can help reduce inflammation, remove free radicals, and support a healthy immune system.

COLLAGEN BOOSTING FOOD #5

Actually EATING Collagen!

Actually eating collagen might be the best way to help our bodies make up for the collagen decline that happens as we get older… One popular way to get collagen naturally is by drinking bone broth. Bone broth is LOADED with collagen. That’s because collagen comes from the skin, cartilage, bones, and connective tissue of animals and bone broth has so much of it!

But it's very time-consuming to make and when I do have time, it stinks up the entire house! And it’s very expensive to buy – at least the good stuff that’s actually made from bones! This is why in addition to eating foods that support my collagen production, I take MAX WORKOUTS Collagen Peptide supplement daily. It's the easiest way to ensure that I'm getting enough collagen my body needs to maximize my joint and bone health, as well as my overall health.

But, Be Careful! Not Just ANY Type of Collagen Supplement Works.

There’s collagen.

And then there are collagen peptides.

They both come from the same amino acids.

The difference is that collagen peptides are made by breaking down full-length collagen molecules, so all the bonds in those molecules are broken.

The word “peptide” means: A shorter chain of amino acids.

Why does that matter?

Because collagen peptides are already broken down for your body to use.

Collagen in its natural state is a very long chain of amino acids…

The molecular weight of collagen is 300,000 daltons.

A dalton is just a unit of measurement.

Collagen peptides are just 3,000 to 5,000 daltons.

That means they are about 100 times smaller than collagen!

This makes collagen peptides much easier to absorb and be used by your body, because they’re smaller, they have better bioavailability.

Collagen Supplements Need to Be a Size Your Body Can Use.

That’s basically it. It’s a size issue!

And studies show that collagen peptides are absorbed by our gut after we take them and sent right into trouble spots where our bodies need collagen…

Skin, joints, bone, everywhere!

Now, there are a LOT of options when it comes to Collagen Peptides.

And, by no means do you have to take the collagen peptides I take to help keep my joints, bones, skin and more healthy.

Just make sure you're getting the highest quality collagen peptides from a reputable company strict manufacturing guidelines...

3 "Must-Know" Facts When Choosing Your Collagen Supplement:

1

More collagen is not better.

Companies who tout their collagen is superior because it contains collagen types I, II, III, V, and X are lying.

First of all, we have 28 different types of collagen in our body.  BUT that doesn't mean more types are better.

There is absolutely no scientific evidence that having more types of collagen is better.

In fact, some research shows that combining certain types together can actually lower the absorption of collagen in the body – making your supplement less effective.

Here's what's important...

There are 2 main types of collagen that make up 90% of the total collagen in your body, and that's Type I and III.

Type I is found in your bones, joints, tendons, skin, hair, and nails.

Type III is found in your skin, muscle, gut lining, and blood vessels.

These 2 types are the most research-backed collagen peptides and are by far the most beneficial to your health and hence the most important!

Keep in mind collagen supplements with more types of collagen often have less of the good types (Types I and III) more of the types that are less beneficial!

So don't get fooled by the false hype!  Make sure you stick to collagen peptide supplements with Type I and III.

2

Collagen shouldn't be clumpy or stinky

If you're getting the right quality collagen peptide there should be no odor, and it should easily dissolve into any liquid without clumping.

Collagen can have a foul odor smell if it was overheated during the manufacturing process.

You should also be aware that some marine collagen is also quite stinky as well.  Not because of a bad manufacturing process but because fish just generally stink.

A proper manufacturing process of collagen peptide should not be overheated, instead it goes through a gentle heating and cooling process that breaks down the long chain amino acid into small easily absorbable short peptides that prevent it from clumping.

Smell and clumping are two qualities that can indicate poor manufacturing process and poor quality control, which is something you should definitely be aware of.

Always make sure that the supplement comes from a FDA approved manufacturer and be on the lookout for a GMP seal.  GMP stands for Good Manufacturing Practice which means that the product has been thoroughly tested for quality, purity and safety.

Although there are plenty of supplements that come from overseas, I personally stick to supplement manufacturers from the U.S. or Canada because the FDA in the US and Health Canada, both have very rigorous manufacturing and safety standards.

3

Look for single ingredients vs. multiple ingredients

If you're looking for a high quality collagen product it should contain just collagen and nothing else.

There are plenty of collagen products out there that have additional ingredients added to the product like vitamins, minerals or superfoods.

Although at first glance it may seem like a better value for your money and health, here are some reasons why you should avoid getting it...

First of all, you're much more likely to get what's listed on the label with a one ingredient supplement.

When you get multiple ingredients in a product, it's common to get incorrect amounts of one or more ingredients.

And it's also much more likely to be contaminated.

Second, one ingredient supplement is more clinically relevant and safe because the vast majority of scientific studies are done on one ingredient at a time.  Multiple ingredient products are rarely clinically tested, so you can't rely on scientific studies.

Lastly, when you take supplements with multiple ingredients, you're not sure which ingredient is causing what effect.  You're much better off knowing what you're taking is what's helping or not!

This is a LOT of information, I know!

And it’s actually hard to find a one-ingredient, pure, and trustworthy source of collagen peptides.

This is why I had one made to my exact specifications just for the Max Workouts family! Take a look…

High Quality, Grass-Fed Collagen Peptides With Just ONE Ingredient: Pure Collagen Peptides

The quality and purity of MAX WORKOUTS Collagen Peptides is top-notch.

Regardless of whether you buy MAX WORKOUTS Collagen Peptides or not, if you're going to put something in your body, make sure to do the research so you know that what's on the label is exactly what's in the jar, bottle, or pill.

A quick Google search will show you that third-party labs find many supplement brands using cheap fillers like powdered vegetables and houseplants instead of the active ingredients listed on the label.

And it happens all the time.

I'm talking about big-name stores like GNC and Walmart, even Amazon.

And as a consumer, you have no way of knowing unless you have a lab at home.

This is why, when I decided to make our my own collagen peptide supplement, we made sure that the compound was 3rd party tested for purity and we chose a highly qualified FDA approved manufacturer that has additional certificates such as GMP Certification (Good Manufacturing Practices), UL Certification, SQF Certification (Safe Quality Food) and NPA Certification (Natural Products Associations).

And to top it off, the manufacturer specializes in collagen and nothing else, which I love. So you know that you're getting pure collagen from a manufacturer that specializes in collagen production!

In one package of MAX WORKOUTS Collagen Peptides, you get one pound, and at 11 grams per serving, you get a total of 41 servings.

That will last you more than a month.

And just so you know, the minimum recommended intake as dictated by research studies are…

Skin: A range of 2 1/2 to 5 grams a day is recommended

Joints: A range of 2 1/2 to 5 grams a day is recommended

Bones: 5 grams or more a day is recommended.

So one serving size of 11 grams per day is plenty to cover it all, and if you wanna take a little more, that's okay too, because no negative effects have been found by taking more.
