How Walking Impacts Blood Sugar Levels
When you eat food, there are changes in blood sugar levels after the meal. These levels can impact weight loss and weight gain, and it is important to balance blood sugar levels if you want to successfully lose weight.
In a recent study, researchers examined people who were at least 60 years old and were classified as high risk for diabetes. Some of these people were asked to walk for 15 minutes after finishing a meal, and another group was asked to walk for 45 minutes each evening.
It was found that both walking schedules helped to improve glucose tolerance, helping to balance blood sugar levels after a meal. Even though both walking schedules were helpful, the most effective method was to walk immediately after the meal.
Blood Sugar Peaks after Eating
When you are done eating, the blood sugar peaks and the body uses insulin to balance those blood sugar levels. When a person walks right after the meal is over, it is possible to quickly bring the blood sugar back to normal levels instead of having the sugars increase for a period of several hours.
These increased blood sugar levels can negatively impact health in many ways. For example, high blood sugar causes the body to store fat, and also impacts heart health and brain function. There are many health complications associated with high blood sugar levels, which is why people with diabetes often experience complications. But, these health problems can be avoided by balancing the blood sugar levels, which is easier to manage by walking after meals.
Go Walking after Finishing Your Meal
This habit can be a simple way to improve your health, especially because the benefits of walking were available with only 15 minutes of movement after eating. Make it a point to go walking after you finish your meal, and pay attention to the way your health improves over time.
Even though additional research needs to be completed to understand the results of this study, it uncovers an important fact: walking after a meal can help with blood sugar balancing, which in turn is beneficial to help with weight loss.
Bottom-line: It’s the little things that count, and this is a prime example of that. If you’re already doing everything right… following the Lean Body diet guide (or something similar) and doing the daily workouts in the MAX Workout Club or the workouts in the MAX Workouts 90-day program… you will get great results. However, if you’re looking for that extra little edge OR you’d like to see your health status improve even more, then try taking a short brisk 15 minute walk after meals. It’s an easy, effective and enjoyable add-on that anyone can do!
